ISLAMABAD: Minister for Interior Affairs Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Thursday said that the Afghan refugees issue was quite serious and soon a national policy would be conceived to regulate their stay in Pakistan.
The successive governments had braced burden of hundreds of thousands of refugees in Pakistan but now the time has come to prepare a comprehensive national policy on the matter, he said in an informal talk with newsmen at an iftar dinner.
Nisar said that a meeting has been planned on the return of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to decide principles upon which the Afghan refugees would stay in the country. “Pakistan had shown a good gesture and permitted Afghan refugees to stay here but unfortunately they (refugees) fail to abide by rules and regulations after entering the country,” he said.
The minister said that the first principle was that the international community would help and support Pakistan and the second was that no refugee would be allowed to purchase property in Pakistan.
